Prayer for Strength

There are seasons when strength runs out. When the body is exhausted, the mind is overwhelmed, and the spirit feels depleted. In those moments, human strength is not enough — and that is exactly where God's strength is made perfect. 2 Corinthians 12:9 declares, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.'

A prayer for strength is not a sign of weakness — it is an acknowledgment of where true strength comes from. Isaiah 40:29 says, 'He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.' When you pray for strength, you are not asking God to help you do more in your own power. You are asking Him to be your strength — to carry you, sustain you, and fill you with His power.

A Prayer for Strength

If you are weary, overwhelmed, or in need of God's strength today, pray this prayer:

Acknowledge Your Need

'Father, I come to You today acknowledging that I am weary. My strength is fading. I have tried to carry this on my own, and I cannot do it anymore. I need You.'

Ask for His Strength

'Your Word says in Isaiah 40:31 that those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. I am hoping in You. Renew my strength.'

Surrender Your Burdens

'I lay down every burden — the anxiety, the fear, the weight of responsibility, the pain. Matthew 11:28 says, 'Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.' I am coming to You, Lord. I need Your rest.'

Ask for the Holy Spirit

'Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Ephesians 3:16 says that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being. Strengthen me from the inside out. Let Your power fill every area where I am weak.'

Declare His Promises

'I declare Psalm 28:7 over my life: The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me. You are my strength, Lord. Not my circumstances. Not my feelings. You.'

Trust His Timing

'I trust that You are working even in this season of weariness. You are not surprised by my weakness. You are not disappointed by my limits. You are using this to teach me to depend on You. And I choose to trust You in it. In Jesus' name, Amen.'

Frequently Asked Questions

To pray for strength, start by honestly acknowledging your weakness and need for God. Ask Him to renew your strength according to His promises (Isaiah 40:31). Surrender your specific burdens to Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with power in your inner being (Ephesians 3:16). Declare God's promises over your life and trust that He is working even in your weariness. A prayer for strength is not about getting more of your own power — it is about receiving God's power in place of your weakness.

The Bible consistently teaches that true strength comes from God, not from ourselves. Isaiah 40:29 says, 'He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.' Philippians 4:13 says, 'I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.' Psalm 28:7 declares, 'The Lord is my strength and my shield.' The Bible teaches that God's power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9) — meaning our limitations are not obstacles to God's strength but opportunities for it.

Feeling weak does not mean God has not answered your prayer. Sometimes God's strength shows up as endurance — the ability to keep going when you feel like quitting. Sometimes it shows up as peace — calm in the middle of chaos. And sometimes God's strength is demonstrated through the support of others — friends, family, and the church. Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh to be removed, and God said, 'My grace is sufficient for you' (2 Corinthians 12:9). Strength may not look like what you expect, but God is always faithful.

Yes. God cares about your physical body. In 3 John 1:2, John writes, 'Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.' You can pray for physical strength, healing, energy, and health. At the same time, trust that God's grace sustains you in every circumstance — whether He removes the physical limitation or gives you the strength to endure it.

A good prayer for strength during difficult times acknowledges your need for God, surrenders your specific situation to Him, asks for His power and peace, and declares His promises. Pray: 'Father, I am in a hard season. I cannot do this in my own strength. I need You. Give me Your strength, Your peace, and Your wisdom. Help me to trust that You are working all things together for good (Romans 8:28). Sustain me, Lord. In Jesus' name, Amen.'

Spiritual exhaustion often comes from giving out more than you are receiving. To find renewed spiritual strength: (1) Return to God's Word — let Scripture nourish your spirit; (2) Spend time in worship — worship refocuses your heart on God's power; (3) Rest — physical rest affects spiritual vitality; (4) Seek community — let other believers encourage and pray for you; (5) Ask the Holy Spirit to refill you. Isaiah 40:31 promises that those who 'hope in the Lord will renew their strength.'
