What Is the Prophetic?

The prophetic is, at its most foundational level, the communication of God's heart and mind to human beings. It is God speaking. Not in a vague, spiritual-feelings kind of way — but specifically, accurately, and personally. The prophetic gift is the supernatural ability to receive and communicate what God is saying in a given moment, to a specific person or situation, in a way that brings edification, exhortation, and comfort (1 Corinthians 14:3).

The prophetic has existed since the beginning of God's relationship with humanity. Adam heard the voice of God walking in the garden. Noah received instruction to build an ark. Abraham was called out of Ur. Moses encountered God in a burning bush. The prophetic is simply God communicating — and it has never stopped.

The Purpose of Prophecy

The primary purpose of prophecy is not to tell you what is going to happen next. It is to bring you closer to God, to confirm His word over your life, and to strengthen you for the road ahead. When a prophetic word is genuinely from God, it does not create dependency on a prophet — it creates hunger for God Himself.

A true prophetic word will line up with Scripture, will bear fruit in your life, will bring peace even when it challenges you, and will ultimately point you toward Jesus. That is the test.
