Beloved, as we approach the season known as Easter, it is vital that we ground our hearts in the eternal truth of God's Word. While traditions may vary across the globe, the heartbeat of this celebration remains the glorious, history-altering resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In the ministry, I often hear the question: What does the Bible say about Easter? To understand this, we must look beyond the secular observations and fix our eyes firmly upon the empty tomb. We are called not to a date on a calendar, but to a living, breathing reality that changes everything for the believer.
The Prophetic Fulfillment of the Resurrection
The entire narrative of Scripture points toward the moment Jesus stepped out of the grave. Long before the events took place, the prophets of old foresaw that the Holy One would not see corruption. The death and resurrection of Jesus were not an afterthought, but the divine strategy of God to reconcile humanity to Himself.
For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. (Psalm 16:10)
When we celebrate, we are acknowledging the fulfillment of ancient promises. This is a time to marvel at the sovereignty of God, who orchestrated the salvation of the world through the obedience of His Son. Because He lives, we possess a living hope that anchors our souls in times of uncertainty.
The Significance of the Empty Tomb
The empty tomb is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. Without the resurrection, our preaching would be in vain, and our faith would be empty. However, because Christ is risen, we walk in the assurance of His victory over sin, death, and the grave.
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. (Matthew 28:6)
The angel's declaration at the tomb remains a shout of triumph that resonates through the ages. It is a reminder to every reader that nothing is impossible for our God. Where you see an end, God sees a beginning; where you see defeat, God has already fashioned a glorious victory.
Walking in Newness of Life
The beauty of the Easter message is that it is not intended to stay in the past. The resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead is the very same power that lives within every born-again believer today. We are called to walk in the newness of life, leaving behind the old man and stepping into the inheritance of the children of God.
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4)
This season invites us to evaluate our walk with the Lord. Are we living as people who have been transformed? The resurrection is an invitation to leave the tomb of past mistakes, regrets, and failures, and to step into the sunlight of God’s grace and purpose for our lives.
The Assurance of Our Future Resurrection
Beyond our current transformation, the resurrection of Christ serves as the guarantee of our own eternal future. The Bible teaches that because He is the firstfruits, those who belong to Him will also share in the glory of the resurrection. This truth provides us with a perspective that transcends the temporary nature of this world.
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. (1 Corinthians 15:20)
We do not mourn as those who have no hope. We possess the promise of eternal life, a gift secured by the sacrifice of Jesus and confirmed by His return to the Father. This hope lightens our burdens and gives us the strength to endure with joy, knowing that our ultimate destination is prepared in His presence.
Living a Resurrection Life Every Day
While many focus on one specific Sunday to remember the resurrection, the call for the disciple is to live in the reality of the empty tomb every single day. The same Spirit that brought life to the cold, lifeless body of Jesus is at work within you, revitalizing your faith, your health, and your ministry.
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. (Romans 8:11)
I encourage you to carry this truth in your heart throughout the year. Do not let the world define your identity or your limits. You are a resurrected being, empowered by the Almighty, destined to walk in the light of His love. Keep your praise loud, your faith strong, and your eyes fixed on the One who conquered it all.
